Mental Meat Heads 2

Sep 25, 2013

A strange twist of fate lead me to the Mental Meat Heads Symposium in Indianapolis and I am not sure if I have ever exercised and thought so much in two days. In the last year I have met so many people who are leading this amazing journey in movement and exercise and it is inspiring me in so many ways. I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to learn from Dave, Chip and Jason last weekend and I truly hope that they can be part of my own adventure going forward.

One of the themes of the weekend was to allow play back into movement. Certain foundation skills and movements are established but there is always room for individuality and self expression. There is no perfect. Which is a bit ironic since the entire workshop was perfect.

Dave, the Mental Meat Head pioneer and owner of Agoge Fitness Systems, is so incredibly knowledgeable that I find it hard to believe that he has only been doing this for 6 or so years. He seems to let deep ideas just slip into regular conversation and I found myself spending hours later in the day thinking about what he had been saying.

Chip, creator of Bodytribe fitness, did notstop moving or thinking all weekend long. He is an amazing teacher who grabs your attention with his ideas and stimulates your imagination. I can't even count the variations of burpees that now exist inside my head! Rene beware! Note to Chip: when the second magic word is sphincter there is no chance in hell that I am going to remember the first.

Before I left for Indiana one of my colleagues asked if I could get Jason's number because "he is so hunky". Fortunately he is also a kettlebell genius and a fantastic teacher and coach. He teaches workshops and certifications all over the US and Canada (and maybe the world) and has so much information to share. I had so much fun with all the partner drills he showed us, the Charlie's angels exercise with the alphabet and the elastic band is definitely going into my training plan. To steal his words "laughter is the closest distance between two people". We were all laughing at some point during these games and I thank everyone for making this so much fun. Jason is so fun to chat with, full of amazing ideas and also hunky.

I also want to say how great it was to meet all the other participants. Thank you Rob for hosting, thank you Steve for bringing me a gourmet veggie lunch and thank you Cliff for driving me back to my hotel. You all made the experience perfect.
